    Abstract:We proposed a novel age estimation scheme based on feature fusion according to Canonical Correlation analysis. Specifically, the shape and texture attributes of feature points in human faces are characterized by both Active Appearance Model (AAM) and Local Binary Pattern (LBP).Then, the canonical projective vectors are built via canonical correlation analysis for feature fusion. To improve computational efficiency, we first introduce Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) to the field of age estimation, and uncover the relation of the fused features and ground-truth age values for age prediction. The experimental results conducted on FG-NET age database show that the proposed method achieves better estimation accuracy while requires less computation time than the state of art algorithms such as BIF. ?     Abstract:Efficient transmission of terahertz (THz) wave is an important research direction in development of THz technology. Polymeric photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is ideal in THz waveguide transmission because of the advantages of low loss, low dispersion and fine flexibility to bend. Based on the full vector finite element method (FEM), a hollow-core PCF with operating frequency of 2.5 THz is designed. Some samples made of cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) are fabricated. The fiber transmission performance of THz wave is measured by using the CO2 pump laser THz source. The measured minimum loss is 0.17 dB/cm and the average loss is about 0.5 dB/cm. The fluctuation of transmission loss is less than 5% after the fiber is bent 90°, showing good flexibility to bend. The measured mode field distribution results of the output port show that the optical fiber transmits signals through the main mode, so the THz energy is well bound in the core of optical fiber. ?, 2015, Editorial Office of High Power Laser and Particle Beams.     Abstract:For many computer vision applications, the data sets distribute on certain low-dimensional subspaces. Subspace clustering is to find such underlying subspaces and cluster the data points correctly. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-view subspace clustering method. The proposed method performs clustering on the subspace representation of each view simultaneously. Meanwhile, we propose to use a common cluster structure to guarantee the consistence among different views. In addition, an efficient algorithm is proposed to solve the problem. Experiments on four benchmark data sets have been performed to validate our proposed method. The promising results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. ? 2015 IEEE.

    Abstract:A novel honeycomb-like hierarchical carbon (HHC) derived from wheat bran has been obtained by the facile and environmentally friendly method via hydrothermal carbonization of wheat bran followed by KOH activation process at mild conditions without any template. The prepared carbon has a large Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area of 2,189.2?m2?g?1 and pore volumes of up to 1.1?cm3?g?1. The performance of the HHC as electrodes for electrochemical supercapacitors was evaluated in a symmetric two-electrode cell configuration with 6?M KOH and 1?M TEABF4/AN as the electrolytes. Electrochemical studies show that the supercapacitors based on the as-prepared HHC exhibit an excellent capacitive performance in both aqueous and organic electrolytes. We attribute the outstanding capacitive behavior of HHC to their unique structure and high accessible surface area. Considering that the cost-effective and feasible process, this facile technique presented here will not only provide a promising method for the production of biomass-derived hierarchical carbon but also put forward the application of carbon materials in energy storage and conversion. ? 2014, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

    Abstract:A method to reduce the signal aliasing influence on the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) estimation is proposed in this study. The reduction of signal aliasing influence is realized by fitting Fermi function to the edge spread function that is estimated by modified slanted-edge method. The proposed method is suitable to measure the MTF of compressive imaging system, which is an aliased imaging system. The results of experiments show that the accuracy of the estimated MTF is improved when the proposed method is used.     Abstract:As for the problem of small target detection in hyperspectral remote sensing image, a detection method based on adaptiveparameter support vector machine (SVM) is proposed. The low dimensional information of the hyperspectral image is obtained using the method of principal component analysis (PCA) and the redundancy of data is reduced. Then, small targets are positioned fast and roughly by an unsupervised detection method, and the posterior information of SVM is got by the position result. The kernel parameter of SVM is determined adaptively based on the posterior information and the criteria of divergence in the kernel space. The best hyperplane in the kernel space for the segmentation of targets and background is found by the SVM. Pixels are separated to targets and background by the best hyperplane. The accurate and stable target detection result is obtained by iteration. A large number of experimental results show that, compared to the existing methods such as RX method, kernel RX method and support vector data description (SVDD) method, the proposed method is more effective to detect small targets accurately in the hyperspectral remote sensing image. ?, 2015, Chinese Optical Society.
